Dave Portnoy Intends To Pony Up Big Bucks For Michigan Quarterback

Michigan fans are reeling a bit now as their beloved Wolverines have fallen to 4-3 after last year’s 15-0 national championship run. A big reason for the slow start is because of poor quarterback play. Three different players have started at the position — Davis Warren, Alex Orji and Jack Tuttle — and none of them seem to be the answer. That’s exactly why Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, jumped into the NIL pool and said what he said.
“I will be your quarterback guy,” Portnoy said on the immensely popular podcast, Pardon My Take. “You just say, ‘Dave, you go…’ — I’ll talk to Sherrone, ‘Who do you guys want? Who’s in there? Give me your group, I’ll go get them.’ I will sign them. A million, two million, whatever it is.”
Portnoy was then asked how high he’d be willing to go for an elite quarterback and he didn’t hesitate. “$3 million.”
Portnoy is definitely a unique kind of booster or donor because not only does he have very deep pockets, he also has a huge platform that most do not. Even still, Roy would be the perfect place for him to put his money, just in case the arrangement doesn’t work out exactly how he wants. Roy is changing the game when it comes to NIL and this kind of potential deal with heavy hitters like Dave Portnoy, Michigan and a stud quarterback would prove it.

Reports are that Portnoy is now willing to go above that mark.
Those numbers seem crazy, but they’re not. In fact, reports are that elite starting quarterbacks are going for more than that. Players like Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava and Miami’s Cam Ward both reportedly received more than $4 million.
Portnoy wants to change the quarterback scene at Michigan and he has the means to do so. He probably also has the platform but there is a rock-solid way to do it now that Roy exists. Roy could be perfect for what Portnoy wants to do. He could put that money into a specific player’s Roy profile and account and almost ensure that the preferred quarterback ends up at Michigan. But he doesn’t have to stop at $3 or $4 million. Portnoy could put as much money as he wants into said player’s account because if that young man doesn’t end up at Michigan, Portnoy gets all that money back.

It really is a can’t-lose proposition.
Roy is a cutting-edge online platform that empowers college athletes and fans to connect through exclusive content. Fans financially support athletes, and in return, athletes share exclusive behind-the-scenes content with their supporters. That’s exactly what Portnoy is trying to do and he’s got deep pockets that allow him to do it in a way that most can’t. He’s even safe in putting up a much bigger number because if it doesn’t play out how he wants, he’s refunded his investment.
Roy helps colleges and universities, and in this case wealthy alums who just want their favorite team to ball out and have a stud quarterback, protect their investments by encouraging athletes to go where the market tells them to go.
