FAQs
Roy is a cutting-edge platform transforming the connection between college athletes and their passionate fans through exclusive sponsorship campaigns. Roy offers fans access to elite Roy-sponsored events showcasing their favorite athletes while providing athletes with a platform to receive fair market value for their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). Roy reshapes the landscape of collegiate sports by empowering fans and athletes as the NCAA adapts to new NIL regulations.
Unlike traditional college sports collectives, Roy allows fans to directly support individual athletes. Once athletes choose their next season’s team, fans who backed them on Roy gain exclusive access to video content produced by the athlete. This groundbreaking method ensures athletes receive fair market value while giving fans the chance to contribute to their dream team and enjoy exclusive content from their beloved athletes.
Roy has the backs of college athletes, turbocharging their school/team announcements and serving up exclusive content to fans who support the athletes. Once an athlete decides on their next season’s squad, fans from that school who supported the athlete on Roy hit the jackpot with exclusive content. But if the athlete takes a different route, fans get a refund or can switch their support to another baller.
Roy isn’t just here to play nice; it’s here to lift athletes to new heights, crank up the volume on their announcements, and dish out VIP content directly to the fans. It’s a power move that lets athletes grab their fair slice of the market while giving fans a front-row seat to connect with their sports icons and help build their dream team. It’s a game-changer that’s a win-win for everyone in the mix!
Like Roy, traditional college sports collectives are dynamic groups formed to support student-athletes by pooling resources from fans, alumni, and sponsors. These collectives offer financial backing, promotional opportunities, and access to exclusive content, helping athletes monetize their NIL rights. However, fans often contribute to these collectives without knowing precisely how their donations will be utilized, adding an element of uncertainty.
This uncertainty can discourage contributions, especially from everyday fans, resulting in athletes not realizing their fair-market value. That’s where Roy steps in! Fans who purchase exclusive content on Roy know exactly who is getting their money, as they decide directly which athlete to support. Roy complements traditional college collectives by offering this transparency. Fans who want to support their favorite school broadly can continue to contribute to traditional collectives, while those who want to know exactly where their money is going now have Roy!
Yes! Roy enables athletes to maximize their NIL opportunities prior to committing to a school for the following season. The recent preliminary injunction in the case of TN v. NCAA marks a significant shift in the NIL landscape, allowing athletes to negotiate and enter into NIL contracts even before committing to a school. This ruling empowers athletes with greater control and financial opportunities, enabling them to secure sponsorship deals and endorsements based on their potential and marketability. As a result, athletes can make more informed decisions about their future, considering both their educational and financial prospects without being restricted by prior NCAA limitations.
ATHLETES
The Roy Platform is a dynamic mobile application that empowers athletes to enhance their personal brand and engage with fans using their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). By running campaigns on the platform, athletes can raise funds for their NIL in exchange for producing four videos for their fans, such as behind-the-scenes footage and personal insights. This approach fosters a loyal fan base and generates revenue through fan support. Unlike other NIL marketplaces, Roy pools payments from fans so athletes only need to create four videos instead of individual videos for each fan. The Roy platform is a valuable tool for maximizing NIL potential and building a strong personal brand.
Athletes can create three types of campaigns, each tailored to different stages of their athletic career: Recruit Campaigns, Roster Campaigns, and Transfer Campaigns. Each campaign type offers a unique opportunity to engage with fans, assess NIL market value, and make informed decisions about their athletic career while providing fans with exclusive insights into the athlete’s journey.
Recruit Campaigns are ideal for athletes considering offers from colleges and universities, allowing them to engage fans as they navigate the recruitment process. Athletes can select up to three schools based on genuine offers and create sub-campaigns for each, enabling fans to show support and help evaluate the athlete’s NIL market value.
Roster Campaigns are for athletes actively participating in collegiate sports at their current school, with a focus on engaging fans by sharing video footage after the season is done and the athlete has made their school decision for their next sports season. These videos typically include off-season insights and experiences, especially for athletes in their final year of eligibility, highlighting special moments and reflections from their last season.
Transfer Campaigns are designed for athletes exploring new opportunities through the NCAA Transfer Portal, allowing them to connect with fans as they consider offers from different schools. Like Recruit Campaigns, athletes can select up to three schools to gauge fan support and interest, helping them understand how their NIL value might change with a transfer.
The Roy Platform offers athletes valuable insights into their NIL market value by analyzing fan support to their campaigns. For athletes considering new opportunities, such as those involved in Recruit or Transfer Campaigns, the platform shows how support for each school reflect fan perceptions of their potential moves. This helps athletes understand where their brand holds the most value and which schools might offer significant opportunities for personal and professional growth. Similarly, current college athletes running a Roster Campaign can see how their performance and fan engagement impact their market value, as fan support during the season indicate the strength of their fan base and support at their current school. This understanding is crucial for gauging the value of their presence within their existing college community.
By providing a real-time assessment of NIL market value, the Roy Platform empowers athletes to make informed decisions about their athletic and academic futures. With a clear picture of their market value, athletes can strategically align their choices with their career goals, maximize potential earnings, and negotiate better sponsorship deals and partnerships. The platform serves as a powerful tool for athletes at all stages of their collegiate careers, helping them navigate the complex landscape of sports and NIL opportunities.
To close a campaign and start receiving compensation, you are required to create four videos for fans who supported your chosen or current school. These videos are designed to engage your fan base by providing unique insights into your athletic journey. The first video is an Announcement Video, where you share your decision about which school you will attend next season. If you are in your final year of eligibility, you are not required to make an announcement video; instead, your content will focus on reflections or future plans.
Alongside the Announcement Video, you will produce three additional videos featuring behind-the-scenes footage, personal insights, or special announcements. All four videos cannot be shared elsewhere without Roy’s permission, ensuring your supporters on Roy receive unique insights from you. It is important to deliver high-quality, engaging videos that align with your campaign’s goals and are timed to coincide with your school decision and the end of the season. This approach helps you connect with fans, showcase your personality and achievements, and maximize support and revenue from your campaign.
Funds on the Roy Platform are collected through fan payments to your campaign. When you set up a campaign, fans can pay to support you at the schools you are considering, providing financial backing that reflects their interest in your athletic journey. You will only receive funds from the fans of the school you ultimately choose to attend, while payments from fans associated with the non-selected schools will be refunded to the fans who supported those options. This ensures transparency and aligns with your final decision, fostering trust and confidence among your supporters.
Once you choose a school, the funds from fans associated with the school you selected are paid out in four equal installments, tied to the delivery of your four videos, ensuring that fans receive something in return for their payments. This process not only supports your financial goals but also strengthens your relationship with your fan base. If you change your school before you deliver all the videos, the funds tied to the remaining videos will be forfeited and the funds will return to the fans, pursuant to Roy’s Refund Policy.
All Division 1 football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball athletes are automatically included on the Roy Platform, allowing fans to show their support from the start. To actively participate in campaigns and accept funds, athletes must claim their profile and sign a Sponsorship, License and Campaign Agreement (“Campaign Agreement”) with Roy. This process involves creating an account, verifying your identity, and agreeing to the terms outlined in the Campaign Agreement, which details your obligations and the platform’s requirements.
It’s important to note that the Roy Platform is currently unavailable to international athletes due to immigration laws and NIL regulations that impact their ability to participate in NIL activities. The platform is designed to comply with U.S. laws and regulations, ensuring that all transactions and activities are legal and transparent.
Roy is committed to ensuring that all campaigns and activities on the platform comply with Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) laws and NCAA regulations. To maintain compliance, Roy continuously monitors changes in legislation and NCAA guidelines. We stay informed about legal developments, such as the recent preliminary injunction from the Tennessee Attorney General case involving NIL, which has implications for how student-athletes can engage in NIL activities. This injunction reflects the evolving nature of NIL regulations, and Roy is dedicated to adapting our platform and processes to meet these legal standards.
As an athlete on the Roy Platform, you are also responsible for understanding and following relevant legal requirements, including state laws and NCAA rules that govern NIL activities. Roy provides support by assisting in the creation of necessary documents and agreements to ensure compliance. This includes the Campaign Agreement, which outlines your obligations and the platform’s expectations.
By prioritizing compliance, Roy helps you navigate the NIL landscape confidently, allowing you to focus on building your brand and engaging with your fan base. Our commitment to legal adherence protects both athletes and fans, fostering a trustworthy and transparent environment for all participants.
Roy will earn a Roy Platform Fee, which is a small percentage of the total funds paid to the athlete. The specific fee amount is clearly outlined in the Campaign Agreement that each athlete must sign before they can receive any payments. This ensures that the platform can continue to provide valuable services and support to both athletes on their NIL journey.
As an athlete receiving payments from Roy, you’ll need to manage your taxes independently. We will send you a Form 1099 to report your income for the year, so it’s important to provide us with accurate tax information. Please note that we won’t withhold taxes for you, so you’ll be responsible for paying any taxes due. To help you navigate this, we suggest consulting with an accountant or tax advisor who can guide you through your responsibilities and help you file your tax returns. Staying informed about your tax obligations will ensure everything runs smoothly.

It’s a unique way to connect with your teams and enjoy behind-the-scenes footage from your favorite athletes.
Currently, our platform supports Division 1 football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball. These sports are among the most popular and widely followed in collegiate athletics, allowing fans to engage with and receive support from a large community and across the country. We are actively working to expand our offerings to include more sports in the future, so fans of other collegiate sports can look forward to new opportunities to show their support.
To support an athlete on Roy, fans must first create an account on our mobile app, available for download from major app stores. Once registered, you can explore campaigns with athletes from Division 1 football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball. After selecting an athlete that aligns with your fandom, choose the amount you wish to pay securely through the app. If the athlete you support decides to stay at or attend the school you backed, you’ll receive four videos co-produced by Roy and the athlete, delivered over time, including behind-the-scenes insights and personal stories. If the athlete attends a different school or the athlete decides to not make the videos, your payment will be refunded according to Roy’s Refund Policy. These videos will be provided after the campaign ends, with the timing dependent on when the athlete makes their decision and the availability of the videos. This timing may also vary based on the type of campaign.
Fans can look forward to a series of engaging videos from athletes. The first video will feature the athlete’s announcement decision, giving campaign supporters an early insight into where the athlete will be attending school for the following sports season. For athletes in their final year of college eligibility, this initial video may focus on reflections or future plans instead of an announcement decision. As for the remaining three videos, Athletes are encouraged to get creative, offering fans behind-the-scenes glimpses, personal insights, and special announcements, allowing fans to connect with their favorite athletes on a more personal level.
Athletes can participate in one of three types of campaigns, which are identified on their Roy profile. The timing of the four videos you’ll gain access to will depend on the type of campaign:
Roster Campaign: If you’re supporting an athlete already on a college roster, the first video will be available when the athlete is prepared to announce their plans for the following season, but no earlier than the first day of the NCAA Transfer Portal for their sport. The next three videos will follow, each at least 60 days apart.
Transfer Campaign: If you’re backing an athlete in the NCAA Transfer Portal, the first video will drop once they’ve decided on where they will be attending school for the following sports season. The next three videos will follow, each at least 60 days apart.
Recruit Campaign: If you’re supporting a high school athlete in the recruiting process, you’ll get the first video when they’re ready to announce their school choice. The second video will be available after June 1st before their first college season, with the final two videos to follow, each at least 60 days apart.
No, Roy cannot guarantee that fans will receive four videos tied to a campaign. There are two primary scenarios where a fan may not receive the four videos even though they paid into a campaign. If the athlete chooses a different school than the one the fan chose to support, the fan’s payment will be refunded according to Roy’s Refund Policy. Or, if an athlete fails to create the four videos required to accept the campaign payments, fans will receive a refund as per Roy’s Refund Policy.
Your payment is divided into four equal parts, with 25% of the total going to the athlete each time they create and release one of their required videos. If the athlete makes only one video and then decides to transfer to another school, they will receive 25% of the payments, and you will receive 75% of your payment back pursuant to Roy’s Return Policy. The reason you don’t get a full refund is that the athlete fulfilled part of their obligation by releasing one video, which is in line with NCAA NIL compliance rules. The NCAA’s quid pro quo requirement mandates that athletes provide something of value in exchange for payment, and this structure ensures fair and compliant compensation for the content delivered.
Fans are charged a Roy Service Fee for all transactions, which is equal to 7.5% of the payment made to an athlete. This service fee supports Roy in providing a robust NIL platform, enabling fans to support their favorite athletes. The fee is retained by Roy as compensation for facilitating fan payments, maintaining our platform, and ensuring a seamless experience for all users. Additionally, athletes pay a Roy Platform Fee to Roy pursuant to the Campaign Agreement they execute with Roy.
If an athlete decides to attend a different school than the one you supported, or fails to deliver all four videos after closing a campaign, you’ll get your money back. Our Refund Policy ensures that fans are protected and outlines the specific terms and conditions for refunds. For complete details, please review our Refund Policy.
No, not all athletes on the Roy Platform have signed contracts with Roy to accept campaign payments and create videos in exchange. Our platform includes nearly every athlete in the sports supported by Roy, which allows fans to begin to show their support even before an athlete engages with Roy. Our Roy team works to engage with athletes as soon as possible after fans begin supporting a particular player. If an athlete never engages with Roy, then the funds will be returned to any fans who supported that athlete, pursuant to Roy’s Refund Policy.
