FAQs

Updated: 3/24/2025

Welcome to Roy — where fans and athletes take control. Roy was built on one belief: college sports are at their best when fans and athletes are connected in meaningful, rewarding ways. Roy gives fans the power to directly support the athletes they care about — and gives athletes a new way to earn by sharing their journey. Fan payments are pooled and held securely, then paid out to the athlete if they stay at (or join) your school and create exclusive content. If the athlete enters the transfer portal or doesn’t create the content, fans get their money back. It’s transparent, fair, and changing how support works in the NIL era.

FAQs for Athletes

WHAT IS ROY and how does it help me as an athlete?

Roy gives you a way to earn money by creating exclusive content for fans who want to support your journey. Fan payments are pooled together and only paid out if you stay at (or attend) the school they backed and you create the content. If not, the money is refunded to the fans.

When can Fans support me?

Fans can support you at any time during the year – but depending on what time of year, these are categorized as different support periods – which we call campaigns.

In Season Campaign aka Roster Campaign:
-Fans can contribute starting the first official day of the season all the way through the end of the transfer portal window.

Off Season Campaign:
-Fans can contribute starting the day after the transfer portal closes and during the spring and summer months all the way up until the first day of next season. Then you will go back into the “Roster Campaign”

What kind of content do I need to create?

It’s simple. You’ll hop on a short Zoom call with Roy, where you talk about your journey, mindset, or goals. We’ll turn that into exclusive video content and send it to your fans — no editing or extra work on your end.

How much time does it take?

Usually less than 15 minutes. We make it easy so you can focus on your season or next steps — and still get rewarded.

When do I get paid?

You can claim your profile and book your call with us to create your content at any time. This content will not be released until the end of the season. Once your content is created AND your school decision is confirmed, we will release the pooled funds to you.

What if I change schools or enter the transfer portal?

If you transfer or don’t create content, the pooled payments are refunded to your fans instead of being paid to you. This keeps the process fair and ensures support stays between athletes and fans who are connected by a shared program.
If you have already created your content with us, and you end up transferring later, the content will never be released.

What if I’ve already signed with a collective?

Roy works alongside collectives. You can still earn additional money on Roy without interfering with existing NIL deals. Fans get a new way to support you directly. If you have entered a deal that would prevent you from working with Roy, let us know. We’d be happy to reach out to that group and ask why they are limiting student-athletes’ NIL rights.

Do I have to post or promote anything?

It’s not required, but sharing your Roy profile on social media helps drive more support. Athletes who promote tend to earn more — and we provide tips to help.

Can I use Roy after the season?

Yes. Roy also offers offseason support periods, allowing you to earn NIL funds throughout the year. It’s another chance to get rewarded for the work you’ve already done. This is called your “Off Season Campaign,” referred to above.

Do I get to approve what fans see?

Of course. If you want to see a copy of the exclusive content going out to your fans, just let us know!

What’s the catch?

There isn’t one. You get paid for being you — and fans only pay if you follow through. Everyone wins.

FAQs for Fans

What is Roy and how does it work?

Roy gives you the chance to support specific college athletes by making a secure payment toward exclusive content. If the athlete stays at (or attends) your school and creates content, they get paid. If the athlete transfers or picks a different school, you get your money back.

What happens to my money after I pay?

Your payment is pooled with other fans’ payments and held securely. It’s only paid out if the athlete delivers content and remains connected to your school. Otherwise, it’s refunded to you.

What do I get in return?

You’ll receive exclusive content from the athlete — updates, behind-the-scenes stories, or personal reflections. It’s a way to not only support your favorite athletes, but also connect with the player beyond the field or court.

Is this a donation?

No. It’s a payment for digital content. You’re not donating to a general fund — you’re supporting a specific athlete and getting something in return.

What if the athlete transfers or doesn’t create content?

Then your payment is refunded. You only pay if the athlete stays connected to your school and delivers on the content promise.

How is Roy different from a traditional collective?

Roy gives you the choice. You pick the athletes you want to support and see exactly where your money goes. It’s transparent and direct, unlike general collective funds.

Is there a fee?

Yes — a small Roy Service Fee is added at checkout to help us operate the platform. You’ll see it before you confirm your payment.

Do I need the app to get started?

The Roy experience is designed for mobile — just download the app, create an account, and start supporting your favorite athletes. That said, we also offer a web-based option, and every athlete has a unique link they can share to make supporting them quick and easy.

Can I support more than one athlete or school?

Absolutely. You can support as many athletes as you want — across any school or sport available on the app.

Why should I use Roy?

Because you can impact the future of your team. Roy gives fans a real way to shape the future of college sports by directly supporting the athletes who represent their teams.
